Will Cooley is a percussionist and music educator residing in the Chicagoland area and currently serves as the Percussion Instructor at Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, IL. From 2010-2014, Will served as the Assistant Percussion Director at Colleyville Heritage High School in Colleyville, Texas where he was involved in all aspects of the percussion program: marching percussion instructor, percussion ensemble director/arranger, middle school sectional/masterclass instructor and primary lesson teacher. During Will’s tenure at Colleyville, the Drumline won numerous first place awards at various area competitions including the Lonestar Classic Drumline Contest, the Tournament of Champions Marching Contest, and the North Texas Colorguard Association Percussion Championships.
An accomplished orchestral musician, Will has performed with numerous professional orchestras including the Boulder Philharmonic, the Colorado Music Festival Orchestra and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. As a freelance drumset artist, Will has performed with a variety of artists including Eric Willis and Freddy Jones and for the nationally-distributed recordings by the Alfred Publishing Company. In addition to Will’s orchestral and drumset experience, he is also a versatile percussionist familiar with contemporary, jazz and world percussion techniques. Will has performed at the 2009 Percussive Arts Society International Convention, the 2009 First International Percussion Festival in Costa Rica.
Will holds a Master’s degree in percussion performance from Northern Illinois University and a Bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Will’s primary percussion teachers were Dr. Doug Walter, Dr. Greg Beyer and Robert Chappell. He has also studied with Jim Ross, Christopher Deane and Doug Howard.
